For our client Ms.B, her 42nd birthday marked the perfect time to celebrate her individuality, and honor the beauty that she has always possessed. She decided to step out of her comfort zone and into the empowering world of boudoir photography at The Vixen Society.
"I decided to book a boudoir shoot to help gain some confidence back after going through a divorce,” Ms. B shares. “I also wanted to appreciate my body as art, even with my imperfections. I had to remind myself that, in the words of J. Cole, ‘there's 'no need to fix what God already put his paintbrush on.’”
As an empowered divorce’ myself, I know that this transition can be a time of profound and deep emotional change. But what many people don’t realize right away is that it’s also an opportunity for rebirth and rediscovery. And doing a boudoir session after a divorce can symbolize reclaiming your body, your self-confidence, and your identity. That was the first thing that I did for myself when I ended what I like to call my “practice marriage” and that is something that I will forever be grateful for. For me, my practice marriage left me feeling unwanted and like I wasn’t enough by any stretch of the word. Booking my session reminded me that someone else’s actions have nothing to do with my worth, my beauty, or how desirable I am as a woman. That’s why any chance that I get to repay this gift is an absolute soul-fulfilling service.
For Ms. B, this particular photoshoot marked both endings and new beginnings. In Between the lighthearted moments during makeup and styling, we had heart to hearts about life, relationships, body image, and dreams. These are all of the things I cherish as a boudoir photographer - and all of the things most people wouldn’t think they would experience at a photoshoot.
When asked about her experience with The Vixen Society, Ms.B couldn’t help but gush: "It was unbelievable, amazing, incredible... I honestly don’t think there are enough adjectives to truly explain just how phenomenal this experience was for me." And seeing the final photos for the first time was a perspective-changing moment. "Flabbergasted," she describes, "I couldn’t believe that it was me on that screen!!" Despite struggling with body image—having children and adjusting to the changes that come with age—this photoshoot allowed her to reclaim her confidence. “Body changes after pregnancy and body changes that have come along with aging in general had me feeling a bit self conscious at times.” Ms. B explains.
"After viewing the results of my photoshoot, I feel more confident than I have in a long time, because my body and spirit were reflected so beautifully in my images—it reminded me that I’m HER!"
This newfound confidence has had a lasting impact on her personal life as well. "I feel like I have been glowing," she says. "I did my photoshoot on the morning of my birthday and proceeded throughout the rest of my birthday and after feeling like a legit Goddess! My confidence has skyrocketed!" She even carries two empowering mantras that encapsulate her boudoir experience: "I stopped waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel. I lit that bitch up myself," and "If someone tells you you’re not beautiful, turn around and walk away so they can have a great view of your fabulous ass."
This session was more than just a birthday gift for herself; it was a celebration of a new chapter and a reminder that EVERY woman, at EVERY stage, deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and empowered.
